Young Leaders complete core block

June 7, 2024

Participants of SCU’s Young Leader programme recently completed the Core Block, the first stage of the Young Leader programme. In the last four months, they’ve taken online classes every week to cover sixteen sessions designed to empower them with essential skills and qualities so they can embrace their role as change-makers in their communities.

The Core Programme provides a comprehensive curriculum with intentional and relevant workshops to develop strong leadership abilities, emotional intelligence, and a deep understanding of their communities’ needs. By cultivating a sense of social responsibility and effective communication, participants will become better equipped to drive positive change and create a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.

The sessions included key topics on self-awareness, goal setting, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, effective communication, and project planning however it wasn’t just theory. The Young Leaders explored social issues, listened to marginalised voices, and pledged to make a difference. Most important, they took what they were learning each week on the online sessions and gathered young people in their community to spread the knowledge, awareness and connect with them in a leader role.

Participants will now move on to he Workshops Block. Over the next four months, participants will attend weekly sessions, half of which will be delivered by external partners specialising in various fields, while the other half will offer participants the chance to present their own ideas and experiences. This block of the YL programme will teach participants to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world scenarios.
