Street Child World Cup Celebrated in Mexico’s National Morning Address 🇲🇽

December 3, 2025

As we continue counting down to Mexico 2026, we’re excited to share a major moment of recognition for the Street Child World Cup. On Tuesday 18 November the tournament was highlighted in the “La Mañanera”, the daily national address given by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, as part of Mexico’s upcoming programme of community-focused sporting events.

In his presentation, Zoé Robledo Aburto, General Director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), officially announced that the Street Child World Cup will take place in Mexico City in May 2026, welcoming 30 teams of young people aged 14 to 17 from more than 20 countries. Speaking to millions across the nation, he emphasised the importance of inclusive sport and the legacy Mexico aims to build as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup.

For us, this national spotlight marks an inspiring milestone. It reflects the belief shared across Mexico that sport can be a powerful tool for protection, belonging, and opportunity, especially for street-connected young people whose voices are too often unheard.

We are honoured to be working alongside Fútbol Más México, IMSS, the Mexican Government, and communities across the country to create an unforgettable Street Child World Cup. Together, we are building a global celebration of youth leadership, culture, and children’s rights.

As momentum continues to grow, so does the excitement. The eyes of Mexico, and soon the world, are turning toward a tournament that will champion young people’s potential, amplify their stories, and create a platform for change that lasts far beyond the final whistle.
